SASKATOON - Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (TSX:POT), which successfully fended off a hostile takeover by mining giant BHP Billiton in late 2010, is raising the cash dividend it pays to shareholders by 33 per cent starting with the May 2 payout.

The dividend will rise to 28 cents per common share per quarter, an increase of seven cents per share.

In total, PotashCorp has increased its dividend by seven cents per share four times since 2011, when it was seven cents per share. The payout doubled to 14 cents in May 2012 and then rose 50 per cent to 21 cents last November.

The company is Canada's largest producer of potash, a mineral used in fertilizers.
