MONTREAL - A Montreal-area company is buying the Bentley leathergoods retailing business, which has more than 400 stores under the Bentley, Access and Unic banners.

Novacap of Longueuil, Que., has recruited the founder of the Winners retail chain, David Margolis, to become chief executive of Bentley Leathers Inc.

He will succeed Bentley's founder Andy Chelminski, who is retiring 25 years after starting the company with a single store in St. John's, NL.

Bentley is now one of Canada's leading retailers of handbags, wallets, luggage and bags.

Financial terms of the deal weren't announced.
