SPRINGHILL - Three weeks after a major cleanup the All Saints Hospital gift shop is open and just in time for spring.
Operated by the All Saints Hospital Auxiallary, the volunteer-run gift shop is a major source for revenues the foundation uses to invest back into the community hospital, Auxiallary president Hannah McSavaney explained.
When a water line on the second floor of the hospital broke the shop was flooded and shut down operations for what many felt could have been an indeterminate amount of time.
"We had to remove the carpet, put in a new floor," McSavaney said. "The girls had just come back from Halifax with spring stock. None of it was out, thankfully."
Between the gift shop and a breakfast the All Saints Hospital Auxiallary conducts, more than $14,000 is brought in annually by volunteers and goes towards the needs of the hospital. The foundation also conducts other fundraiser throughout the year, like the recent raffle for a one of-a-kind teddy bears donated by Chris Murray that was won Lindsay Cutcliffe of Fall River.
"We'll receive a wish list and we'll raise the money. New tables, equipment for the lab, new beds for the palliative unit, equipment for physiotherapy."
The auxiallary has also assisted in furnishing a room for doctors as well as a family room near the hospital chapel, making the reopening of the gift shop all the more pertinent for its members.
Fundraising aside, the auxiallary is also looking for new members, McSavaney says. The group meets the third Wednesday of every month and interested parties can find out more details by calling the gift shop at 597-7160 or by dropping by.
