OXFORD (Staff) - Sam Moore's goal stood as the game-winner as the Oxford High School Lady Golden Bears edged the Parrsboro Lady Warriors 1-0 in Cumberland District High School Soccer league action here Thursday.

Erin Dorn recorded the shutout for Oxford.

In the boys contest, Brian Margeson scored twice to pace Oxford, including a slick header off a great run at the goal in the first half as Oxford and Parrsboro played to a 2-2 draw.

Travis Canning and Chris Salter replied for Parrsboro.



Smith nets ARHS winner

over South Colchester

AMHERST (Staff) - Marlon Smith continued her torrid scoring pace netting the lone marker for the Amherst Regional High School Vikettes in a 1-1 draw with the South Colchester Raiders Thursday.

South Colchester's goal came on a penalty kick.

SPRINGHILL (Staff) - The Ross Refrigeration Cumberland County Cool Blues Junior B Hockey Club will be hosting a Four-ball Scramble at the Springhill Centennial Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Registration fees are $25 for club members and $30 for non-members. This includes a steak barbecue following the tournament.

Teams must have a minimum handicap of 55 with no more than two members of the team with handicaps of 10 or less.

Try outs for Provincial Women's Hockey Team

HALIFAX (Staff) - The first try-outs for the Nova Scotia entry at the 2008 ESSO Women's National Championships in P.E.I. next March will take place at the St. Margarets Bay Arena on Monday, Oct. 8. Registration will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and ice time from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

There will be a $20 registration fee. HNS registration is required of all players.

If you are not signed to a HNS minor or senior team, you must complete a HNS special affiliation form. Online registration can be found at www.nswpht.ca or by calling Glen at 895-9351.



Peewee Ramblers tryouts

SPRINGHILL (Staff) - The CCMHA Peewee AA Ramblers will continue tryouts on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 6:15 p.m. at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre.

The remainder of the tryouts will be $5 each, which continue in Springhill on Sept. 25 and 27 at 6:15 p.m.

Anyone wishing to tryout must be registered with CCMHA. Any questions, call Peter Brown at 545-2497.



Spartans seeking new members

AMHERST (Staff) - Looking for something beyond your swim lesson? Wondering what comes next? The Spartans Swim Club is offering interested swimmers a non-competitive program to further develop their skills.

Interested participants who have progressed through the regular swim lesson program will have the opportunity to continue to develop as swimmers while learning different skills in a team environment. hosting scramble, meeting

AMHERST (Staff) - The Ladies Division of the Amherst Golf and Country Club will be hosting a closing scramble, banquet and general annual meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The scramble will take place in the afternoon starting at noon followed by the banquet at 6 p.m. and the AGM slated to commence at 7 p.m.



CCMHA seeking house league coaches

AMHERST (Staff)  The Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association is seeking house league coaches for the upcoming season.

As well, it is looking for volunteers interested in being scorekeepers at the Amherst Stadium, Oxford Arena and the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill. Minor hockey is considering offering a small honorarium for those doing the scoring.

Fundy Phantoms plan fundraiser

SPRINGHILL (Staff) - A karaoke night and auction have been planned in support of the Fundy Phantoms Junior C hockey team for Saturday, Sept. 29 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Lamp Cabin Beverage Room.

Tickets for the event are $5 and include several items for the price of admission and a chance at door prizes. All proceeds will go to the Phantoms to be used for operating costs this season.
