Cost will be $5 each, for session set for Springhill on Sept. 21, 25 and 27, all ice times will be at 6:15 p.m.

Anyone wishing to tryout must be registered with CCMHA. Any questions, call Peter Brown at 545-2497.



Hockey referees clinic

SPRINGHILL (Staff)  There will be a referee clinic on Sunday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Springhill High School

If you are interested in attending you must be 14 years of age.

Bantam AAA hockey starts tonight

SPRINGHILL (Staff) The CCMHAs Bantam AAA Bordertown Pontiac Ramblers will host tryouts this weekend commencing on Friday, Sept. 21 at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre.

The opening session is set for 7:30 p.m. followed on Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. and Sept. 25 for the third session.

All players wishing the take part will be charged $5 per session and everyone must register with the CCMHA prior to stepping in the ice.

Women's hockey tryouts

for 2008 Esso nationals

HALIFAX (Staff) - The first try-outs for the Nova Scotia entry at the 2008 ESSO Women's National Championships in P.E.I. next March, will take place at the St. Margarets Bay Arena on Monday, Oct. 8.

Registration will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and ice time from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

There will be a $20 registration fee. HNS registration is required of all players.

If you are not signed to a HNS minor or senior team, you must complete a HNS special affiliation form.

Ladies golf scramble, meeting

AMHERST (Staff) - The Ladies Division of the Amherst Golf and Country Club will be hosting a closing scramble, banquet and general annual meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The scramble will take place at noon followed by the banquet at 6 p.m. and the AGM slated to commence at 7 p.m.



ARHS Golf teams advance

to NSSAF provincials Oct. 1

ANTIGONISH (Staff) - The Amherst Regional High School golf teams have both advanced to the NSSAF championship as a result of Northumberland Region play at Antigonish Monday.

Kaitlyn Perry-Dawson finished with a 107 while Laura Conrad, at 113, helped the girls squad to a third place finish at the Northumberland Region championship held here Monday.

Travis Parrell's 84 led the boys, while Ryan Cooke finished with an 87, Cale Burke, 91 and Jordan Letcher, 96, to lift ARHS. The 358 total allowed the locals to finish one shot ahead of North Nova High School of New Glasgow for the fourth and final qualifying spot.

The provincials will be held Oct. 1st at Shubenacadie's Penn Hills course.



CCMHA seeking house league coaches

AMHERST (Staff)  The Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association is seeking house league coaches for the upcoming season.

As well, it is looking for volunteers interested in being scorekeepers at the Amherst Stadium, Oxford Arena and the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill. Minor hockey is considering offering a small honorarium for those doing the scoring.

Cool Blues Four-ball Scramble

SPRINGHILL (Staff) - The Ross Refrigeration Cumberland County Cool Blues Junior B Hockey Club will be hosting a Four-ball Scramble at the Springhill Centennial Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Registration fees are $25 for club members and $30 for non-members. This includes a steak barbecue following the tournament.

Teams must have a minimum handicap of 55 with no more than two members of the team with handicaps of 10 or less.

Inaugural Porter Memorial Golf

seeking entries for Sept. 29 event

AMHERST (Staff) - The inaugural Morgan Porter Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Amherst Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost is $35 for Amherst Golf Club members and $65 for non-members. Entry fee is due at noon on Sept. 29.

CCMHA registration

AMHERST (Staff) Cumberland County Minor Hockey is holding additional registration sessions in the coming days.

There will be a session at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill on Friday, Sept. 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It will be the final registration session in Springhill.

Another registration session will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Amherst Fire Department in the meeting room (please use the front entrance).

Cost for first-year players (all levels, players who have never played hockey before) is $175. For returning players, the fee is $325, except for midget which is $350.

The family rate is $775 (including two sets of fundraiser tickets) while any additional child is $100 each.

These rates include $50 recoverable fundraising tickets.
