Original Weir Rockin' board members Brad Johns (from left) Stacey Moore and Andy Conrad were on hand on March 28 at the Alexander Keith's Beer institute when the lineup was announced for the much-loved annual event.

HALIFAX - After much speculation and buzz, Weir Rockin' 2013 organizers have confirmed the lineup for this summer's outdoor concert in Upper Sackville.

And the stage goes to Glass Tiger, Streetheart and Lou Gramm (the voice of Foreigner)

Last week, approximately 75 people — mostly volunteers and sponsors — attended a private kick-off party in Halifax for the unveiling of the bands that will play Weir Rockin' on Saturday, Aug. 17. Crowd response to the announcement was positive, but there was a bit of an unexpected twist. Traditionally the 2,000-plus concert goers at Weir Field have been entertained by Canadian rockers like April Wine, Sass Jordan, Haywire and Loverboy, to name a few. This year, the theme will still be 80s, but there will be a Foreigner in the mix.

"We've decided to broaden our horizons a little bit," said producer Stacey Moore. "Lou Gramm of Foreigner will be our first non-Canadian band."

Although it was a nice tradition, there are only so many 80s Canadian rock bands left, so organizers had little choice but to head south, she said.

Ian Robinson from Q104 said either way it will be a great show and he's looking forward to seeing them all... especially Streetheart.

"I know I'm dating myself, but they played at my high school in 1983. I was in Grade 12," he laughed. "Under my Thumb, What Kind of Love is This... I'm really looking forward to seeing them again."

A self-proclaimed queen of the 80s, Lower Sackville resident Sherri Mills is also looking forward to the show. She bought the very first ticket for the show last year that featured Platinum Blonde, Prism and Kim Mitchell.

"They've all been great, but Haywire has been my favourite so far. This year I can't wait to see Glass Tiger... I saw them at the Misty Moon back in 1987."

Because it always falls so close to her birthday, Weir Rockin' is always the biggest party of the year for Mills.

"I think this year I'm going to actually watch the bands," she laughed. "Usually I'm at the back of the crowd closer to the beer tent."

Beer will be flowing on the night of the show, but Weir Rockin' organizers have always held a strong stance against drinking and driving. During the unveiling it was announced that once again bus shuttles will be made available to concert goers to and from the site.
