Mabou native Jimmy Rankin set to release new album

SYDNEY — Singer-songwriter Jimmy Rankin is gearing up to release his sixth solo album.

Released through Song Dog Music/Fontana North, 'Back Road Paradise' features 12 brand new Rankin compositions, including lead-off single “Cool Car” and duets with Grammy Award winner and bluegrass icon Allison Krauss, as well as Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy. The album, which will be released April 1, has been described as Rankin's first full-on country project.

“For me, going country is a natural progression and that’s where I am right now," said Rankin, a native of Mabou, in a release.

With tracks like "Falling So Hard," "Shades," "Build This House," and "Whiskey When the Sun Goes Down" Rankin's latest batch of tunes also stay true to what have become hallmarks of his musical career — smart lyrics, great vocals, and well-crafted songs.

A well-paced album with both ballads and up-tempo songs, 'Back Road Paradise' takes listeners on a journey through life’s ups and downs as he sings about life, whether it's falling in love, building a family or just wanting to have a party with friends on a Friday night.

Rankin, who first rose to fame as a member of legendary Cape Breton band The Rankin Family, has now also established a very successful solo career. Rankin boasts multi-platinum sales and numerous industry awards for both his solo work and as a member of The Rankin Family. He has a total of five Juno Awards, an astounding 27 East Coast Music Awards, nine SOCAN top radio play awards, two Music Nova Scotia Awards and seven Canadian Country Music Awards.

Rankin will embark on an 18-date cross-Canada tour in support of his new album beginnig March 28 in Halifax and wrapping up on June 7 at Enwave Theatre in Toronto. The tour includes a stop at East Coast Music Week in early April in Charlottetown, P.E.I., where Rankin will perform several times, including the gala show. He's also nominated for an East Coast Music Award in the fan's choice entertainer of the year category.
