Shania Twain performs at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Dec.1, 2012.
No one is dishing out details yet but the official announcement is expected to be made in the very near future at a press conference.
TC Media was able to confirm that the Charlottetown Event Grounds has been booked for a concert on the Labour Day weekend. This concert has been rumoured since early in the year when talk of party plans for 2014 began to trickle out.
The concert would serve as the grand finale for what is being called Foundersâ Week, one of dozens of events built around celebrating the 150th anniversary of the 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which led to Confederation.
TC Media did seek comment from Penny Walsh McGuire, executive director for P.E.I. 2014 Inc., but that call was not returned. This newspaper also called Wayne Long, events development officer for the City of Charlottetown, but he wouldnât confirm or deny the news.
â2014 will be a year of great events and celebrations,ââ Long said, declining to comment specifically on the Twain concert.
TC Media has also learned that a block of rooms at the Holman Grand hotel in Charlottetown has been booked for Twain but a spokeswoman for the hotel denied that.
There is already quite a bit of chatter on the C103, a Moncton rock radio station, website with one person saying âas a finale for this summerâs celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference, a major concert is in the works for August. DKD is the promoterââ.
DKD is well-known Canadian concert promoter Donald Tarlton, chairman of the Donald K. Donald Group of Companies. Tarlton is working with the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), an American worldwide sporting and music entertainment company, to supply the show.
Twain is probably best known for her 1995 album The Woman In Me although it was her 1997 release Come On Over that became the best-selling studio album of all time by a female act in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time, selling more than 40 million copies. Her fourth and last studio album Up! Was released in November 2002 and has sold more than 20 million copies.
She just finished her two-year show Shania: Still the One show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and is scheduled to perform two concerts at the Calgary Stampede in July, the first one of which sold out in minutes.
The five-time Grammy Award winner apparently also has a new album in the works.
