TRURO - A book penned by a Truro resident will be a gift given to international delegates at the Vancouver Olympics.
"I never expected this ... it's quite an honour," said Dee Appleby, whose best selling non-fiction visual arts book From Land and Sea Nova Scotia's Contemporary Landscape Artists will be given to delegates as a way to educate others on what the province has to offer.
The book was published by Nimbus and released in mid-October.
There were 2,500 copies made and more may be reprinted in the spring as there are very few copies left.
The provincial government purchased 60 of the books to present as a gift at the Olympics. They will be at the Atlantic Canada House pavilion on Granville Island, where the Atlantic provinces will be represented with the book, food and music.
"The artists in the book are thrilled with it going to the Olympics because it gives them more recognition," said Appleby.
"I think it was chosen because many photography books don't showcase visual artists and this is a really good way to give a broad overview of Nova Scotia artists because there are 70 of them represented."
Appleby believes her book will be used as a marketing tool to entice people to visit the province.
"They can use the book as a reference for fine arts in the province."
The unique opportunity also "has given me a push to get going on a second edition," Appleby said.
