TRUEMANVILLE - When Barbara Baxter moved back to Truemanville, she knew she had to carry on her father's tradition.
For several years, Ken Sisson opened his garage up to the community at Halloween and Christmas to show his miniature village, taking great joy in the reactions from the younger visitors.
A year after he passed away, Baxter and her husband Phillip are opening up Sisson's garage to once again show off his work.
"It's something we felt we had to do because the displays were sitting here and it meant so much to dad to have people come in and see them," Baxter said. "He really enjoyed it and I think he would have wanted us to do this."
Located at 1925 Highway 6, the display will be open Wednesday from 6-9 p.m., with a good will offering being accepted. The proceeds will be donated to the Sunrise Trinity United Church.
The Baxters, who moved from Ottawa, said Sisson used to get pretty good crowds whenever he showed his work and it used to the talk of the community. People used to come each year to see what he added.
"It came a long way from when he started with a four-by-eight piece of plywood and a few buildings," she said, adding she hopes to some day be able to set up his original Christmas display next year.
Baxter and her husband will be dressed in Halloween costumes and there will be a number of frights for the little ghosts and goblins.
The Halloween display is of a village complete with a fall scene and numerous decorated homes and shops. Much of the material Sisson gathered from his own property and he spent hours putting the display together.
The Baxters are also planning to show off Sisson's Christmas display on Dec. 8 (storm date Dec. 9) and Dec. 15 (storm date Dec. 16).
