FORT BEAUSÉJOUR - It was a windy day atop Fort BeausÉjour-Fort Cumberland during the site's 16th annual Fall Fest on Sunday.
It didn't stop roughly 100 visitors to the site, which saw kids looking for items in a scavenger hunt before savouring a tasty fall treat including ginger cookies.
They also had a chance to go for a horse and wagon ride.
"We have a number of events throughout the day to help celebrate the season," said interpreter Serge Brum at the information centre. "We've got some fall treats and music that helps set the mood a bit to create the new colours."
Walking into the visitor centre, one gets an overview of the National Historic Site if they haven't been before.
For Mary and Clay Myers, it was the couple's first visit to Canada.
"We wanted to do a tour of the Maritime provinces," said Mary, her Nashville accent strong.
Having both taught American history, the Myers visited a number of other historical forts in the Maritimes using a historic site pass before stopping in New Brunswick.
"We never really understood how the Maritimes were ... Halifax was always just a point on the map," said Clay.
With a Cumberland River in Tennessee, the Myers used their visit to Fort BeausÉjour-Fort Cumberland as an educational experience.
"We learned of the link between what goes on in here and in Tennessee," said Clay.
"You guys have some real gems here," added Mary as they walked out the door. "It was a great education for us."
Outside in the fort, five youth used their imaginations and had fun doing it. Celebrating Adrian Batt's 11th birthday, he and his sister, Meredith, and his friends Cameron Fury, Zachareie Mangoni and Cameron Evans re-enacted the war between the British and French.
