CHARLOTTETOWN The Robertson Library at the University of Prince Edward Island is now in possession of a rare Gaelic language Bible donated by an Alberta woman.
Dorothy Gladnish is a descendant of Duncan Darrach, an immigrant from Scotland who settled in the Clyde River area of P.E.I. more than 200 years ago.
Descendants of Duncan Darrach still live in the Nine Mile Creek, Milo, Cornwall, Wood Island and other P.E.I. areas as well as Clyde River, where he originally settled.
Gladnish, an avid amateur genealogist for more than 35 years, had met many of those descendants.
I want to help share this old Bible with other Darrach descendants, said Gladnish.
A Darrach family tree, researched by Gladnish, is also available, although she stresses it is not complete because of missing documents and spelling errors over the years.
