President Sharon Fairfax welcomed 70 members plus eight guests: Nancy Boudreau, Sara Chappell, Sister Teresa Currie, Judy Ehrhardt, Deacon Howard Gotell, Betty Lee, Mrs. Narsolis and Janet Pickering to our June closing meeting.

Father Vernon Driscoll offered Grace and all members proceeded to enjoy the hot and cold buffet provided by League Members with a self-serve ice cream sundae with all the toppings for dessert.

Thanks were extended to those who provided the meal, as well as those who decorated the hall for this occasion. Following this, a special gift card was given to Sheryl Narsolis with best wishes from our council for her new addition due to arrive in August. Sheryl was truly surprised, grateful and delighted to receive this for her soon to be newborn. She thanked us very much.

The meeting began with The League prayer and O Canada was sung. A motion was made to dispense with all reports.

Sister Teresa Currie, guest speaker, was introduced by Linda Harrison. Sister Teresa, who is in her 63rd year as a nun, spoke with compassion on her pastoral ministry in various capacities with deep commitment, especially with her work in the prison ministry. A gift card with thanks was extended by Marg MacDonald for sharing this informative and interesting presentation.

Pat Weatherbee stated the Confirmation reception on June 8 went well with approximately 50 guests in attendance and gave thanks to all who provided lunch and to those who helped with the reception.

On June 22nd First Holy Communion will take place with members assisting. We thank the Knights of Columbus who continue to give their support with a celebration cake for these occasions.

Pauline Pettigrew gave a favourable report on the turkey salad take-out.

Rita Davison accepted a Certificate of Appreciation from Gables Lodge on behalf of our council.

Mary Lynne Chapman took us down memory lane with early reports from both former councils of St. Charles and Nativity of Our Lady. Different events and fundraisers were held back when, and are still very much in the forefront in support of our church.

Our League Promise does not change and continues to stand as our mandate. It is indicative of our strong bond across the nation.

The following service pins were awarded by Linda Harrison and Marg MacDonald: 10 years – Susan Faulkner and Dianne Gillis. 25 years – Emma Rolfe, 50 years – Carolyn Droesbeck and Madeline Ryan.

Pat Wetmore and Teresa Williams will receive their pin at a later date.  Maple Leaf Service pins were awarded to Darlene White & Linda Harrison for their dedication to the League by Francine Robichaud and Maria Kirkpatrick. Darlene White has moved to Halifax and will be a member of St. Benedict’s Council CWL. We wish her the very best in her new faith community.

Madam President Sharon Fairfax gave a detailed report on the provincial convention held at Our Lady of Lourdes in Stellarton, May 30 to June 1, with 121 delegates in attendance. Theme Development and beautiful Eucharistic Celebrations were held with many inspiring messages.

Business sessions were held with efficiency, elections took place and the new provincial president is Joan Bona. Those attending from our council were: Sharon Fairfax, Linda Harrison, Margaret MacDonald and Francine Robichaud.
