Traditional East coast musicians recognized at ECMAs

A slew of traditional East Coast artists performed at East Coast Music Week's Roots Room on Thursday evening. 

HALIFAX - Traditional East Coast musicians broke out their fiddles, bodhrans and guitars to entertain a crowd at East Coast Music Week's Roots Room Thursday evening. 

Pictou County's Fleur Mainville, Dave Gunning, Jim Dorie and Gabrielle Papillon had nominations in categories announced at the Roots Room event. 

Though no Pictou County artists took home wins on Thursday, there are still many locals with nominations for awards yet to be announced. 

At the Roots Room it was announced that Natalie MacMaster won Traditional Instrumental Recording of the Year for her album "Cape Breton Girl," Tim Chaisson won Roots/Traditional Solo Recording of the Year for his album "The Other Side," The Once won Roots/Tradtional Group Recording of the Year for the album "Row Upon Row of the People They Know," and Rose Cousins won Folk Recording of the Year for her album "We Have Made a Spark."

Performing at the Roots Room was East Coast artists Dwayne Cote and Duane Andrews, Mary Jane Lamond and Wendy MacIsaac, Dennis Ellsworth, Ennis, Carmel Mikol, The Dardanelles, Ben Caplan, and The Navigators.
