TRURO - A ballet company that's performed in Truro just a few short months ago has been given a national award.
Ballet Jörgen Canada has been given the 2011 National Arts Centre award for distinguished contribution to touring in Canada.
The award recognizes the company's leadership role in the development of touring by professional dancers and companies in Canada and throughout Nova Scotia.
This past fall, Truro was included in Ballet Jörgen Canada's tour in the province that reached more than 3,400 school children, dance students and audience members.
The organization also includes master classes, public performances, outreach activities at local libraries and intensive training sessions with ballet students.
In March, Truro will once again see Ballet Jörgen Canada bring its talent to town with a performance of the full-length original ballet, Anastasia.
