The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

AMHERST – Michelle Hicks was outwardly calm. The director was overseeing final tweaks to sound and staging before a dress rehearsal performance of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at ARHS’s theatre Tuesday night.

“We’re as ready as we’re going to be,” she said. “A little panic goes a long way…”

Showcase Productions musical hits the stage this weekend, Nov. 3, 4 and 5.

The show has a cast of 15. The kids “competing” in the titular spelling bee are actually high school students, with the exception of  Logan Pipes, 9, who has one line (he’s a veteran of school shows and Showcase camps, but this is his first time performing with a company).

“People are very good about coming to support us,” said Hicks
