Asparagus spears can be thick or thin, but which diameter tastes better?

-Slender doesn't mean tender. Thin and thick stalks can be equally tender although the thick ones are meatier.

-Fat asparagus is not necessarily older either. It comes from more vigorous or younger plants.

-Thin asparagus comes from older plants or plants grown closer together.

-Tenderness is linked to colour rather than size: the greener, the better.
