Former Oxford elementary school up for sale
OXFORD - The Chignecto-Central Regional School Board is looking for a new owner for the former Oxford Elementary School.
Tenders for the school, built in 1952, close Feb. 18 while a pre-proposal meeting and tour will go Thursday at the Jackson Street building, vacated when the new Primary to Grade 12 school opened in early January.
School board spokesperson Carolyn Pierce said she believes there is interest in the elementary school. If there isn't, the board will decide what to do after the tender process passes.
Smile, you're on street view
AMHERST - Can you find your house?
It's a question many Internet-savvy people will be asking as they look for their home on Google Street View, which has added Amherst and other Cumberland County communities to its service.
The Google Street View vehicle was in Cumberland County in August capturing images for the cityblock project.
Tuesday's launch contains all remaining Street View imagery captured in Canada in 2009, including the Trans-Canada Highway, so that people can plan or visualize road trips across the country.
Donations surpass UW goal
AMHERST - Even during tough times, residents throughout Cumberland County are the generous kind.
Donations for the 2009 United Way of Cumberland County campaign surpassed the $150,000 goal, which executive director Cathy Skinner called a great success.
The final total of the 2009 campaign was $159,500, with the very last corporate donation coming through The Sobey Foundation.
