HERZLIYA, Israel - Israel's prime minister says long-stalled peace talks with the Palestinians could resume in a matter of weeks.
Benjamin Netanyahu says the international community realizes that Israel wants peace negotiations to restart, and that could push the process forward.
Netanyahu told an Israeli security conference that he had reason to hope realistically that the talks with the Palestinians would resume in the "coming weeks" without preconditions.
An Israeli official indicated Israel would take a step to make it possible for the Palestinians to agree to the talks. He did not give details and spoke on condition of anonymity because no offer has been made.
Palestinians insist on a halt to West Bank settlement construction before talks resume.
