TORONTO - A group representing ER doctors says emergency care standards need to be set across Canada following the death of an Ontario teen.
Dr. Alan Drummond of the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians says Ontario isn't the only province that has seen tragedy after an emergency room was closed.
He says all levels of government should sit down with health-care workers and set some standards for effective emergency care.
Reilly Anzovino, 18, died Dec. 27 as the ambulance carrying her was travelling about 20 kilometres to Welland because the emergency department in nearby Fort Erie had been closed.
The girl's family and other groups say her death raises questions about whether the closure of two local emergency rooms led to an avoidable fatality.
The Ontario Hospital Association says only British Columbia has set down standards for emergency care.
