MACHIAS, Maine - A Maine State Police trooper has been suspended without pay for two days after chasing a suspected drunk driver into New Brunswick.
State Police officials say seven-year veteran Staci Carpenter left the United States in Lubec on Oct. 2 when she crossed the Roosevelt Memorial Bridge onto Campobello Island, N.B.
Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland says Carpenter turned around after travelling about a kilometre into Canada and returned to the United States.
McCausland says policy requires troopers to stop at the border and alert Canadian authorities.
The suspect being chased reportedly pleaded guilty in New Brunswick to entering Canada without stopping.
