MILLBROOK - Two people want to be chief of Millbrook and 51 want positions on council, including former council member Alex Cope.
Stephen Gloade Sr. is challenging Chief Lawrence Paul for the band's top elected position.
All 12 incumbents, who were returned to office during the 2008 election, are seeking re-election when band members go to the polls on Feb. 25.
The incumbent council members are Colin Bernard, Loretta Bernard, Cope, Adrian Gloade, Barry Gloade, Clara Gloade, Peter Gloade, Robert Gloade, Vernon Gloade, Lloyd Johnson, Barry Martin and Chris Nasson.
Nominees seeking council positions are Jane Abram, Angela Bernard, Janet Bernard, Bryan Brooks, Cheryl Fritz, Frank Gloade, M. Theresa (Wilmot) Hardgrave, James Howe Sr., Gordon Johnson, Howard Johnson, Justin Johnson, Sonny Julian, Keith Julien Sr., Pius Knockwood, Dennis MacLeod, Mary Magwood, Linda Maloney, Ward Markie, Craig Marshall, Stephen Marshall Sr., Bennet Martin, Cathy Martin, Matthew Martin, Nolan Martin, TJ Martin, Corrina Milliea, Virginia Mousseau, Angeline Paul, Ella Paul, Jack Paul, Lorne Paul, Margaret Phillips-Poulette, William Pictou, Bernie Sylliboy, Dale Sylliboy, Moe Sylliboy, Kelly Wilmot, Randolph Wilmot and Spenser Wilmot.
In November, Cope had to resign his band council position after being convicted of drug and firearms possession charges. Anyone convicted of an indictable offence under the Criminal Code of Canada must give up a council position, but it does not restrict someone from running in subsequent elections.
