AMHERST - Trina Clarke has had the interim label taken off her position at the Cumberland YMCA.

Clarke, who led the organization through a trying 2008 and 2009, was officially named the chief executive officer of the YMCA during the board's November meeting.

"The board has unanimously voted to appoint her as the CEO," board spokesperson Kathy MacLean said. "She has taken us through some very tough times and has done an excellent job over the last year. Things are really looking up in 2010."

A longtime employee of the YMCA, Clarke was appointed as managing director in June 2008 replacing Divya Minocha, whose contract was not renewed by the organization.

Clarke played a prominent role in her role as managing director in refocusing staff and renewing confidence in the cash-strapped facility.

She also worked with the board and the community stakeholders to get the YMCA pool reopened after it was closed temporarily earlier this year.

Congratulations, Trina!!!!! It' so nice to see that you have been recognized for all your hard work & dedication during the rough times that the YMCA has been having. I don't think they could have chosen anyone else to fill those shoes, but you. Keep the positive atitudes flowing, it shows when we walk in that things have changed. Good luck in 2010!!!
