County under winter storm watch

AMHERST - Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch warning for Cumberland County and many other areas of the province overnight.

Residents in the northern area of the county, as well as those traveling the Cobequid Pass, should be on the lookout for adverse conditions and take the necessary safety precautions.

Updated statements will be made available on the Environment Canada website as they become available.

The agency is calling for 10 cm of snow and ice pellet accumulation from the time the snow starts this evening until it changes to rain overnight. Rainfall amount is estimated at 5 mm.

Southeast winds are expected to reach gusts up to 50 km/h early this evening, then increasing to gusts of 80 by midnight.

Temperatures are expected to rise to 7 C by morning.
