AMHERST - Sunday's late fall storm dumped between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow in and around Amherst, making for slippery roads and reports of flickering lights.
Roads across the county, including the Cobequid Pass were snow covered and slippery with reduced visibility.
The storm blanketed much of the Maritimes and was expected to peak in Newfoundland and Labrador's Avalon Peninsula with larger accumulations and strong winds.
Nova Scotia Power was reporting power outages for about 5,000 customers around the province, while NB Power was reporting about 1,700 customers had lost power due to the storm.
Environment Canada says Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick could expect to see about 15 centimetres before the weather system moved off.
Up to 20 centimetres was expected over northern and eastern Nova Scotia, particularly over higher terrain, and a snow warning was in effect in Cape Breton.
In Newfoundland, up to 30 centimetres is forecast for the Avalon Peninsula and an area stretching from the province's south coast to Terra Nova National Park and the Bonavista Peninsula.
Strong winds were also lashing the region, with gusts expected to reach 80 kilometres per hour in St. John's.
