TRENTON - The Cumberland County Blues are at 12 wins in a row, and they aren't showing any signs of slowing down.
Last night they handed the Pictou County Scotians a 6-1 loss at the Trenton Minor Community Sports Centre.
Blues captain Cody Roach picked up a hattrick and also an assist to lead the team. Similar to last week's outing against Pictou County, the Blues scored three first-period goals and badly outshot the Scotians.
Roach set the tone 53 seconds into the first period, assisted by Seth Crowe and Cole Wood. Next it was Jordie Shaw, from David Burke and Geoff Burke. Midway through the first, Crowe picked up a powerplay goal, from Roach and Murray Bavis.
Roach made it 4-0 on a shorthanded effort at 7:20 of the second period. Kirk Harris answered with the Scotians' only goal of the game at 8:38.
Crowe and Roach scored the last two Cumberland goals of the night, both on the powerplay.
The Blues badly outshot the Scotians 48-28, and were 3-9 on powerplay attempts. Meanwhile, the Scotians were 0-5.
The team is hoping to keep their streak alive this week. They host the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates Friday at home, while they host the Scotians for the third time in as many weeks on Saturday.
