MONTREAL - Canadian National Railway Co. (TSX:CNR) said Monday that it will impose a wage increase and change the mileage caps for the company's locomotive engineers after contract talks failed to reach a settlement.
CN said it told the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference in the weekend of its plan to increase wages by 1.5 per cent and change the mileage cap for the engineers effective Nov. 28.
The current contract between the union and the railway expired at the end of last year.
"CN has made several different offers to resolve these collective agreements, all of which have been rejected by the TCRC," the railway said.
"CN also offered to refer the matters in dispute to binding arbitration, but the TCRC rejected this option as well. CN still prefers to achieve agreements with the TCRC without a labour disruption."
