FREDERICTON - Vandals have damaged the provincial cenotaph in Fredericton just days before Remembrance Day ceremonies are to be held there.
A large granite cross that stood more than three metres high has been toppled and broken into a number of pieces.
David Smith of the Fredericton legion says it is devastating to see the damage to the monument that has stood since the end of the First World War.
He says the heavy pieces of granite will have to be removed before the service on Wednesday.
Fredericton police have begun an investigation.
