Town crier from Nova Scotia once held international title

SHELBURNE, N.S. - Residents of Nova Scotia and town criers across Canada are remembering Perry Wamback today as the loudest man in the Maritime province.

The 65-year-old from Jordan Falls died Monday.

An electrician by trade, Wamback won several competitions, including the North American championship and an international title.

He was appointed town crier of Shelburne in 1982, and was highly regarded for carrying on a tradition dating back to the 18th century.

Wamback is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Pam and son Rob.

A memorial service will be held Friday at the Shelburne Community Centre.
