VANCOUVER - B.C. residents are being invited to join what's being called the largest health research project ever conducted in the province.
The B.C. Cancer Agency says it wants to recruit 40,000 people to take part in the BC Generations Project, aimed at finding out how environmental exposure, lifestyle and genetic makeup contribute to cancer and other chronic diseases.
It's part of a 30-year Canadian study to collect health information and biological samples from 300,000 Canadians.
Richard Gallagher, the head of the BC Generations Project, says by studying a wide variety of people, researchers will gain a better understanding of the factors that contribute to cancer and other diseases, such as heart and lung disease or diabetes.
Anyone aged from 40 to 69 is eligible to participate and will need to spend 90 minutes at a BC Generations Assessment clinic.
They'll have to complete a questionnaire about their health and lifestyle, have various physical measurements taken and provide a blood and urine sample.
