Environment Department investigating fish waste washing ashore in N.B.

CAP-PELE, N.B. - Two New Brunswick fish plants are under investigation after residents complained about large accumulations of waste washing up on their usually picturesque shores.
Fish guts, bones, heads, blood, and juices have become a major nuisance in Cap-Pele, near Shediac.
Laurie Collette of the provincial Environment Department said the accumulation of waste has created a smelly state for people living nearby.
He said the accumulation is being investigated as a human nuisance rather than as a threat to the environment.
Collette said the department is still determining whether there is enough evidence to bring the matter to court.
He said the fish plants won't be identified unless charges are laid.
