Amherst approves water capital budget

AMHERST - Amherst approved its 2009-10 water operating and water capital budgets during a special town council meeting Thursday.
The water operating budget totals $1,477,800 and the capital budget is $461,442.
The capital budget includes water main replacement on East Pleasant Street, Douglas Avenue, Stanley Street and Chignecto Street.
It also includes paving those streets after the water mains are replaced.
Town awards tenders
AMHERST - Amherst town council awarded several tenders during a special council meeting Thursday.
The town awarded the tender for a John Deere loader from Wallace Equipment, valued at $154,800, over bids from Atlantic Cat, ALPA and Wilson Equipment.
It also awarded a tender for a five-tonne dump truck to Universal Truck and Trailer for $114,535. Other bids were from East Coast International Trucks, Moncton Peterbilt, Applied Pressure Inc., Nova Enterprises and Bayview Trucks and Equipment.
Chitty buys Maple Avenue property
AMHERST - Amherst has sold a piece of property on Maple Avenue to Ed Chitty for $2,092.43.
The property, located at 27 Maple Ave., has been vacant for several years and has more than $13,000 in taxes and other bills against it.
The property owner's trustee said the owner has gone backrupt and has no way of contacting her. He suggested the town sell the land.
The land has gone to tax sale on several occasions with no bids being received.
Nancy Ripley had the only other tender, valued at $2,000.
