ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - An adjudication tribunal convened by the College of Physicians and Surgeons has found a Newfoundland psychiatrist guilty of professional misconduct.
Dr. Thomas Cantwell of St. John's was found to have had a sexual relationship with a patient between 2004 and 2008.
Cantwell, who has served as the clinical chief of mental health with Eastern Health, withdrew in March 2008 and has not practised since.
The tribunal accepted a joint statement of facts and a joint submission on sanction.
Cantwell was ordered to surrender his licence and his name will be removed from the college's medical and specialist registry.
He was also ordered to pay a portion of the cost of the disciplinary hearing.
