CORNER BROOK, N.L. - Police are trying to determine whether charges will be laid after a child in Corner Brook, N.L., was seriously injured in an attack by a dog.
Nine-year-old Samantha Loder had to undergo surgery to repair cuts and punctures to her head, back and arms after the Saturday night attack.
Animal control officers took possession of the German shepherd.
At least two news reports Monday indicated the dog would be euthanized.
The girl's mother, Kim, was looking out the window at the time of the attack.
"Samantha was covered in blood," her mother told NTV news. "There was a big bite - hole - in her back."
The girl's mother said the attack still haunts her.
"Nighttime is bad. I close my eyes and that's what I see, is this, all over again."
Sgt. Craig Pilgrim of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said it appears the dog got loose, adding the owner has been co-operative in the investigation.
