HALIFAX - The Nova Scotia Teachers Union will officially participate in the Halifax gay pride parade for the first time.
Union members are being encouraged to join the annual procession through downtown Halifax.
The union's website says it's part of an awareness campaign regarding sexual minority issues in education.
It says the union is trying to create safe and caring schools for all students and staff.
Union president Alexis Allen will march along with other people representing her organization.
Local labour groups have been a part of the popular parade for years.
Teachers have participated in the pride parade in the past but never as a formal delegation representing their union.
