FIVE ISLANDS - For the Crawford family, the Not Since Moses run in Five Islands is a step back in time.
The family, who now live in different spots around the country, is originally from the small community nestled along the shore of the Bay of Fundy.
But their roots go even deeper than that.
"We're descendents of the white Anglophone settlers of this area," explained Heather Crawford, who now lives in Toronto. "William Corbett on my mother's side.
"We come back each summer, my sisters and I grew up here and our parents still live here," said the 48-year-old mother of three.
The extended family participates in the run each year.
"We've started planning our vacation around it," she laughed.
For Crawford's sons Oscar, 14, Isaac, 12 and Jacob, 8, the best part of the race was getting dirty, something children are usually scolded for.
"We got super muddy," said Isaac, as he smiled from ear to ear. "We were racing and just stopped to roll around in the mud."
For their mom, it was a chance to spend time with her entire family.
"It was fabulous, just incredible," she added.
