TRURO - A request from the Creamery Square Development Project for municipal funding to continue its improvement efforts has been postponed until after the provincial election.
Project president Floyd Tucker asked Colchester County council Tuesday for $36,000 to proceed with courtyard landscaping and waterfront bank stabilization as the group continues with its revitalization efforts.
"Where do we come up with the money for this when we've already done our budgets?" asked Coun. Earl McKenna, following Tucker's presentation.
Phase Two of the square's new Heritage Centre is nearing completion and Tucker said it is hoped that grand opening ceremonies will proceed in late June.
Area Coun. Jimmy LeFresne asked that the request be sent to council committee for further study, given that the potential for any contributing funds from ACOA will not be available until after the June 9 election.
Corporate director Bruce Purchase said if council approves the request, the money will have to come from an unbudgeted expense.
