ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A Newfoundland man who has dedicated much of his life to volunteering for the Canadian Red Cross has been honoured for his work.
Desmond Dillon of Gander, whose involvement with the organization spans 42 years, has been invested in the Order of Red Cross.
Last year, Dillon and his wife Jean volunteered in Texas communities devastated by hurricane Ike.
In 2005 they did the same in Louisiana after hurricane Katrina.
The pair helped manage Red Cross operations in New Brunswick a year ago following the worst flooding in decades along the St. John River.
