PARRSBORO A human skull discovered during a church renovation project here last week is being analyzed today at a Halifax laboratory.

Construction workers uncovered the skull remains during renovations to the United Baptist Church in Parrsboro.

The find was reported to the Parrsboro RCMP detachment and the RCMP Medical Examiners Services were brought in to investigate.

The skull is currently at the medical examiners office in Halifax where testing is being conducted, Parrsboro RCMP Const. Jeff Davidson said. We wont know how long the skull has been under the church or where it could have come from until the medical examiners complete their tests.

Davidson confirmed that only the skull was retrieved from the scene and the matter remains under investigation.

Reverend Greg Doyle said the remains were uncovered when a worker with Charles Reids Construction company was sifting through a bucket of soil retrieved from an area under the church, which was built in 1947.

There are no church records indicating a church burial, but we are hoping to be able to piece together where the skull may have come from when the RCMP complete their investigation, Doyle said.

According to Doyle, construction workers were given the go ahead to resume work at the church Monday.
