NEW GLASGOW Workers including educational assistants, clerks, IT specialists and librarians at the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board in Nova Scotia have voted in favour of a strike.

Over 500 members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union Local 71 voted 90 per cent in favour of a walkout to support contract demands.

Some of the issues in the dispute include fairness regarding storm days, recognition for the changing nature of administrative positions, and recruitment in the area of IT.

Meanwhile, conciliation dates have been scheduled for Dec. 3 and 4.

If talks fail, the union will be in a legal strike position 14 days after the conciliator files a report.

There are over 600 members in the local, who have been without a contract since June 30, 2007.
