CALGARY - Poor baby Malti.
Elephant keepers at the Calgary Zoo are working around the clock to save the one-year-old pachyderm that has contracted a deadly disease that attacks the lining of blood vessels.
Zoo spokeswoman Laurie Herron said test results confirmed that Malti is suffering from a usually fatal virus that attacks the circulation system.
"Clearly she's not feeling well, but they are giving her whatever they need to keep her comfortable and keep her fluid levels up." Herron said.
"She's lasting longer than most do, most don't last more than a couple of days."
Herron said Malti likely caught the disease from one of the other elephants at the zoo.
