July, August meetings cancelled
Amherst council has cancelled its July and August meetings with the next scheduled meeting set for Sept. 22.
Council normally cancels its summer meetings to allow for staff vacations.
Special meetings will be called as issues arise.
Rick Gould Welding awarded tender
Contractor Rick Gould Welding has been awarded the tender to provide new waste receptacles.
The town will pay Gould $785 plus HST each for 15-two unit waste receptacles and two three-unit receptacles at $975 plus HST each. The total cost is $13,725 plus HST.
The existing waste receptacles cost less than $100 when put in place but have become unsightly, with plastic bags protruding from the cover edges.
The three-unit receptacles will be used at the Amherst Stadium in the winter and Robb's Centennial Complex in summer while the other two-unit receptacles will be placed in public parks and along streets in the downtown.
Stadium to get
paint job on beams
Byron MacDonald Ltd. has been awarded the $44,200 tender to paint the steel rigid frame beams over the ice surface at Amherst Stadium.
The town wants to have the beams repainted to better compliment the interior colour scheme at the stadium.
The winning tender was the only bid submitted.
Portion of Christie Park offered to Angels Society
A portion of Christie Park will be offered by the town to the Mothers of Angels Society for use as memorial garden.
The newly-formed support group is hoping to establish the garden as a place of beauty where mothers, relatives and friends may go to pay tribute to the lives of children no longer with them.
The Amherst group was formed last November and meets every second Sunday at First Baptist Church.
program awarded grant
Amherst town council is supporting the Cumberland Early Intervention Program with $1,000 through grants to organizations.
Council made the decision Monday.
While the application from CEIP was not received by budget time, the town had anticipated its receipt and $1,000 was budgeted. The town is also providing a $250 grant to the Amherst Aerials Gymnastics Club.
