Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, Jason Reitman and his dad Ivan, and South Parks Matt Stone and Trey Parker are among the big names appearing at Montreals Just For Laughs Comedy Festival next month.

These names are as good as it gets in contemporary comedy, and they're not simply showing up to wave the flag for new work, climb on a plane and fly home.

Apatow calls in major IOUs from his ensemble troupe in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall for a July 18 midnight show called Apatow for Destruction. Its stand-up, but riddled with film references, and features Rogen and Craig Robinson of Pineapple Express, the latest Apatow comic production.

The film component of the festival includes an advance screening treatment of Pineapple Express on July 19, with appearances by Rob-inson, Rogen, co-writer Evan Goldberg, co-star Danny McBride, director David Gordon Green and Apatow. The film opens in theatres Aug. 8.

Other highlights of the Just for Laughs Film Festival, formerly called Comedia, include Montreal actor Jay Baruchel and director Chaz Thorne introducing Just Buried, a tale of sex, death, greed and ambition set in a funeral home.

Spencer Rice of Kenny and Spenny presents the premiere of his new film Confessions of a Porn Addict.

There are screenings of William H. Macys The Deal, the Sundance hit Baghead, the animated Space Chimps and French mega-hit Bienvenue chez les Chtis - the biggest movie in French history.

Director-producer Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) and his son Jason sit for a session at the inaugural Just for Laughs industry conference. Montreal-born Jason - director of the indie hit, Juno - will also offer a master class.

In addition, the film fest will show new short films made by, with or near, people including Kate Hudson, Dakota Fanning, Quentin Tarantino, Lars Von Trier and Montreal's Jon Lajoie, whose YouTube shorts have attracted over 30 million hits.

The Just for Laughs Comedy Festival runs July 10 to 20 in Montreal. For more information, visit hahaha.com or call 514-845-2322.
