New Wallace festival just dandy

WALLACE - The small community of Wallace has turned the tables on dandelions from its reputation as an unwelcome weed to the focus of a spring celebration.
Wallace resident Doug Perry has spearheaded the organization of the community's inaugural Dandelion Festival, with the support of the Wallace and Area Development Association, and invites everyone to visit the seaside village Saturday to see blankets of the bright sunny-yellow flowers.
"I want to see lots of people come this weekend and put Wallace on the map for some enjoyable family fun," said Perry.
He said in past years he, and other residents, had patronized the Truro Tulip Festival and with its cancellation, felt Wallace could host a flower- themed festival of its own. The dandelion was a natural choice because they are plentiful this time of year and seem to appear almost everywhere in the village.
"I like them," said Perry. "I think they are pretty and they are cheap, you don't have to buy them they just grow on their own."
On Saturday, a community-wide yard sale, with more than 15 venders, will start early in the morning along with sidewalk sales at a number of businesses.
There will be family activities and sporting events at the community ball fields, a dandelion photography competition inside the community hall, a barbecue outside hall, and in the evening musician Arthur Drysdale and Northumberland Folk will take the stage at the hall.
Perry said there are many planned events but people can also enjoy a stroll along Wallace's picturesque waterfront or stop by the lobster pound on the fishermen's wharf to add an extra special flavour to their visit.
For more information about the day-long event, call Perry at 257-2817.

What a great idea!!! I love dandelions, they are sooo pretty. People always complain about these weeds . Happy to know there are people out there who also appreciate these beauties and celebrate.
