AMHERST - A longtime Fort Lawrence furniture retailer is about to come under new ownership.
The Daily News has learned that Berry's Furniture's Amherst store is in the process of being sold to Sydney furniture giant Schwartz Furniture.
Further details were unavailable Wednesday as neither Berry's owner Don Berry not Schwartz president Brian Purchase could be reached for comment.
Berry's has operated on Lower LaPlanche Street for 35 years in the building that was at one time home to Amherst Home Furniture.
Berry's will continue to operate its store in Truro.
According to its website, Schwartz was founded in 1921 as a clothing store in New Waterford with the first furniture store opening in Sydney in 1957.
Today, the main Schwartz Furniture Showrooms and warehouse are located in Sydney, Glace Bay, North Sydney, Port Hastings and New Glasgow.
