HALIFAX - A Halifax regional municipal councillor is pushing for a ban on the use of 15-passenger vans by the city.
Steve Streatch says he was more than a little surprised to see a municipal 15-seat van carrying kids to a skiing excursion just days after a similar van was involved in a horrific crash in New Brunswick.
Streatch says he favours the use of a mini-bus to transport kids.
The use of the vans has come under increased scrutiny since a devastating crash near Bathurst, N.B., that left seven teenage basketball players and their coach's wife dead.
Nova Scotia public schools have long abandoned the use of the vans dating back to an accident in 1984.
Last week, the Halifax Grammar School pulled its 15-passenger van off the road.
