Just in time for the holidays, some bleeding, oozing, flesh-hungry zombies appear on the scene, and Christmas dinner will never be the same. Who wants the legs? The Umbrella Chronicles is the 16th release in the Resident Evil franchise, but the game has not gone stale. Brand new, yet familiar, Chronicles features familiar locales and storylines from the entire series. You'll play chapters not seen since the GameCube days and others that followed. But you'll also visit the Umbrella Corp.'s stronghold, which has never been seen before, as you learn new details about the group responsible for the freaky virus. You'll also catch a glimpse of the franchise's future, as its makers get set to release RE5 in 2008. Chronicles is a bridge between the classic titles in the series and the emerging storylines. Everything has been redone to take advantage of the unique characteristics of the Wii system, which provides superb graphics and interaction with the game. The shooting has been rejigged to make use of the new Wii peripheral toy, The Zapper. The Remote and Nunchuk controllers snap into this gun frame and make zombie hunting a lot more fun once you get used to the awkwardness of the unit and haphazard button functions. One of the main characters, Rebecca Chambers - an 18-year-old girl with a pixie voice - is irritating, but there are seven other playable characters and there's a lot more going for the game. You will find it satisfying, every so often, to sacrifice Ms. Chambers to the undead. Score: Three stars out of five
