SACKVILLE - A Sackville-area woman out for a walk in the British Settlement area was able to escape after being chased by a stranger as she was on her way home last Sept. 26.

According to Sackville RCMP, who are continuing to investigate the incident, the woman was walking from Queens Road to her house in the British Settlement area shortly after 7 p.m. when she started to notice a man in a pickup truck drive past her and then stop until she walked by; then the truck would go past her again.

By the time she reached the British Settlement area, it was 7:45 and getting dark. She noted the same truck had parked in an isolated area off the road as though it were being concealed. She became spooked and started to run.

The woman happened to look behind her and saw the male driver chasing her on foot only a few feet away.

The male reportedly yelled at her twice, "come here!" The woman yelled "no" and kept running.

"She'd never seen him before and never saw the truck before," said Sackville RCMP Const. Patricia Levesque.

Fortunately, the woman is in good physical shape and was able to out run the man. She ran to the nearest house but no one was home. She hid out of site until she heard the truck leave due to its loud muffler.

Although RCMP are unsure of the man's intentions, they are continuing to look for leads as to his whereabouts.

"I don't think that he was just hanging out. He had some odd behaviour that he needs to explain," said Levesque.

Afterward, a neighbour in the area confirmed seeing the vehicle as well. Shortly after, a witness saw a vehicle matching the description with a loud muffler speeding toward Woodpoint. Tire tracks show the truck also left its hiding place in a hurry.

The vehicle is described as an older (late 80s to mid 90s) Chev pickup truck, blue on the bottom, white on the top, long box, extra cab with a loud muffler. A license plate number was not obtained.

The suspect is about 35 years old with black hair, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.

Anyone with any information is asked to call District 4 RCMP at 506-533-5154 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
