PARRSBORO Brian Tennant has many memories of his mother, but one of his favourites was the time he sent her to the hospital.

"She used to take me fishing when I was a kid," he recalled. "One time I reeled way back and got the hook just above her eye. She had to go to outpatients in Springhill to get it out. From then on I wasnt allowed to carry the rod when we went fishing."

Florence Tennant, who passed away on Aug. 3, was remembered by friends and family as someone always generous to others, hard-working, with a love for bluegrass music and travelling.

Brian joked about being "traumatized" by all the bluegrass shows his mother used to drag him and his cousins to, and said she could turn the air blue when things didnt go her way.

He also remembered her and sister Gussie tackling new things like photography and building new things around the house in Southampton where they lived for 15 to 20 years.

"She was very generous," he said. "She would give her last cent to anyone. If someone liked something she had, she gave it away."

Longtime friend and neighbour Joyce Collins said Florence was a true friend who was always good to her, and misses the many phone calls they had, and trips together for appointments and errands.

"She loved having her own place and getting wood, making her own fires and things like that," said Joyce, who used to spend a lot of time with her and Gussie at Christmas. "We used to get our Christmas trees together, the three of us."

One time the trio went on a road trip to Ontario to visit Florences brother, and had a great week together, she recalled. Even if it was just going to Amherst, Florence loved to go along for the trip.

"She was a good person, and always thought of somebody else," she said. "She really loved her grandkids too."
