AMHERST Hundreds of passionate Harry Potter fans lined Victoria Street late Friday night and into early Saturday morning just to be some of the first to get their hands on the seventh and final book of the famed fantasy series. "Its my favourite book series. Ive been reading it since I was six," said now 14-year-old Langille Weatherbee while waiting to get her copy of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows" Friday night. "I cant wait to read it." Her plan, like many others that anxiously waited outside Mrs. Pugsleys Emporium until 12:01 a.m. Saturday morning to get a copy other the novel, was to pull an all-nighter to get it read as fast as possible. "I wanted to be able to read it tonight," said 18-year-old Melissa Hardy, who came from Sackville to get one, and was lucky enough to get the weekend off work to read it. "It actually worked out perfectly. My boss went away for the weekend." Nicholas Jessome, 15, didnt buy a book Friday night, but waited in line just to see the Harry Potter exhibit Mrs. Pugsleys Emporium had set up to complement the release. His plan was to pick one up Saturday and spend most of the day reading it. "Theres lots of adventure. I really like the fantasy genre and its about a person my age so it makes it more fun to read," he said.

Hannah, Liam, and Andrew Melanson stayed up late to buy a copy, but had no intentions of reading it all overnight Fridayat least not all of it. "I just want to flip to the last chapter to see who dies," Hannah said Laurel Kearns, Bob McCoy, and Claire and Christopher Kearns-McCoy were in the area from New Jersey and couldnt wait until morning to get one, either. Claire justified staying up late to get one. "This is more fun. Its way cooler to say I got Harry Potter at midnight than it is to say I got Harry Potter at 7:30 in the morning," Claire said. "And besides that, we got Harry Potter at midnight in Nova Scotia," Laurel added. jdickie@amherstdaily.com
